Sandstripe
Orange tabby with white she-cat with yellow eyes. | ||
She-cat | 29 moons | Supportive |
WindClan | Warrior | Simple-minded |

appearance
[break]
With her father and brother both being orange tabbies with yellow eyes, two of this cat's distinguishing traits could have been used to name her: her ginger pelt that was the lightest in her family or the white markings that her brother lacked and her father had only on his paws. Her mother chose to name both her kits for their orange fur, however, and so chose Sandkit for the lighter and Poppykit for the darker. As she aged, however, Sandkit's tabby markings became darker and more prominent. Her warrior name, Sandstripe, reflects this.
[break]
[break]
Rounded, bulky, and muscular, Sandstripe doesn't fit in with a lot of cats' assumptions about how a WindClan cat looks. Her short, stocky legs don't give her the speed of some of her Clanmates, but she has exceptional endurance. Her advantage in fighting comes from brute force and her ability to take a hit more than any skill. This usually ends up with her leaving battles with a some kind of wound, though none have yet left notable scars that aren't hidden by fur.

personality
[break]
During Sandstripe's warrior ceremony she was acknowledged for her strength and dedication to WindClan, both of which are known well to her Clanmates. She's happy to follow the orders of others and puts all her energy into making WindClan the best it can be. This physically rugged she-cat isn't afraid to get her paws dirty and prefers going to her nest knowing she's worked hard; sitting by and letting others do the work makes her uncomfortable and she'll often help out others whether her help is actually wanted or not. She tries to stay on other cats' good sides and will stifle her feelings if she thinks it will make someone unhappy, but she will stand up for her friends if they're very unhappy. She also dislikes laziness and rudeness, though these traits would have to be extreme to warrant any kind of outward comment from her

[break]
There is a lot of good to be said of Sandstripe, but no cat would ever jump to compliment her wit. Sandstripe's solution to problems is always the most obvious one. If that should fail, she'll quickly turn to another cat for guidance. She will rarely trust her own judgement and prefers not to give her opinion on matters of importance, instead deferring to others. Whether she's genuinely a bit stupid or simply lacks any confidence in herself is uncertain, though a mixture of both would probably be most accurate. Either way, she prefers to support others rather than call much attention to herself and would be uncomfortable with any kind of spotlight shone on her. In another cat this might be called shyness, but Sandstripe's social and extroverted nature stop such a label from being too often applied. She openly dislikes being alone and would rather be in unhappy company than in solitude. Her need for companionship makes her a great listening ear for cats who might need it, but can also lead her to force herself onto cats that would rather be left alone.

history
[break]
Sandkit and Poppykit were born to a healthy young mother and a father confined to the medicine cat's den with a grim outlook. The queen asked again and again that her mate be let in to see his kits, but no sane cat would let someone so sick into a nursery with newborn kits. He passed away shortly after their birth. Though the kits listened respectfully when their mother told them stories about him, they didn't know enough to mourn him.

Sandpaw quickly became known as one of the slowest learners out of all the apprentices. She had to practice twice as much and still ended up under-preforming most of the time. Her mother was embarrassed and apologized to her frustrated mentor, leading to Sandpaw being teased for a bit. Poppypaw became her constant protector and wasn't afraid to tattle on them, resulting in the worst of it being nipped in the bud. The only thing Sandpaw seemed to learn quickly was that the other apprentices were just plain better than her: a lesson she keeps close to her heart still today. Though her mentor sometimes despaired her slow progress, he enjoyed her attentiveness and perseverance and rarely griped about the extra time he put in. He trained her away from the other apprentices at first, hoping that maybe she would bloom when no cat was watching, but soon put her back with the others and was pleasantly surprised to see that she seemed to get on a little better with others to help, especially the watchful Poppypaw.

At 16 moons, moons after her brother already received the honor, Sandpaw was named Sandstripe. She was embarrassed to be given her name so long after most of her peers and for every cat to see her, but her excitement won out and she accepted her name with her head held high. Her brother waited for the rest of the Clan to be asleep before sneaking out of the warrior's den and laying beside her to share Sandstripe's silent vigil. When the sun rose and he had to leave on the hardest dawn patrol of his life, she declined returning to her den and instead asked to join so she could make sure he came back in one piece.

Having settled into the role of a warrior, Sandstripe is content. She's yet to receive an apprentice and views the possibility with a lot of apprehension and a little bit of excitement.
