[break] witch hazel [break][break] blind tortoiseshell she-cat who looks worn. |
[attr="class","twomedcontainer"]
[attr="class","twomedicon"]
[break]
The most noticed trait of Witch Hazel's is her strange eyes. In twolegs they would call it glaucoma, a buildup of fluid causing eye swelling, spots, and blindness. To cats, it is simply an oddity that strips the she-cat of her valuable eyesight. However, her milky, spotted aqua eyes, cause her only minimal trouble. The she-cat manages by restricting herself to a very small space of living, one which she knows well from her moons of experience. Using her unusually long whiskers--a trait she considers quite lucky indeed--and her sensitive paw pads, as well as her large ears, she is able to maneuver. [break][break]
Witch Hazel is a tortoiseshell cat who does not have any other unusual traits or physical characteristics. However, her overall demeanor and form looks well-worn, and any cat who did not know better would assume she was far older than she is. She is thin and can easily startle others for when she is not carefully stalking for mice--a task that takes much more time for her than most cats--she is found sitting perfectly still, waiting for anything that could catch her off of her guard.
[break][break]
personality[break]
Witch Hazel's name lacks a nod to her prickly-pear personality. Unlike the helpful, healing herb, Witch Hazel herself is the most anti-social and unhelpful of felines. She prefers to be left alone, but oddly enough, when a cat is in need she does not turn them away. She will grumpily allow them to share her home, but make herself scarce until they leave. She is very protective of herself, and does not let others into her personal life. She may carry many secrets, but others may never know. Behind blind blue eyes, there lies a great wall that protects her jaded past.
[break][break]
Stubbornness is a perfect trait within Witch Hazel's arsenal of unpleasantries. She will not budge when she makes a decision, and does not care much how it effects you one way or another. She is best left alone and on her own, but there is still something about her, almost heartbreaking, that makes her a fascinating cat. Others try and learn more about her life, as if it were a game, but she has yet to ever trust anyone beyond herself. Without trust, Witch Hazel has no reason to divulge her secrets. She never would give away something so precious and damaging so easily.

history
[break]
Witch Hazel was not born blind. Rather, the degenerative eye disease over time claimed her sight. She was a fairly normal, healthy kit, and grew up hunting in an area of land that contained an old farm house, barn, and many acres of land. This territory was located south of the Rusty Mill, and the kit never knew of other cat groups to the north of her. She and her family grew up happy, and her life was relatively normal. The cats of the farm were divided into two social groups, however, with a bitter rivalry feud between them. The two sides would attack one another regularly, and there were many injuries and many deaths. The lives lost were mourned, but not much, for they knew more would follow soon. A back-and-forth of killing and bloodshed reigned, and the tension was almost unbearable. [break][break]
As she aged, Witch Hazel began to lose her sight. When she was about a year old, things became very fuzzy, and she found herself even more worried of an impending attack that she could not defend herself from. The constant fear of an attack from the opposing side eventually drove her out, and she sought a better, more peaceful life for herself. The cheerful worry-wart made her way up north and soon found an old mill that reminded her of home. Oddly enough, it was vacant save a few loners who would sometimes appear. She welcomed the company, though, and was still social regardless of her slowly deteriorating eyes. Soon, Witch Hazel learned of other Clans, and she made a trip out to WindClan to inquire about joining them. Strangely enough, she was denied the chance to join without much reason given, and with a broken heart, she dragged her sad self home. [break][break]
One day, her vision simply left. Witch Hazel awoke and could no longer see anything but a soft, hazy light that watered her eyes and was quite unpleasant. The she-cat was bitter about her rejection into Clan life, and was even more bitter that she had nothing and no one. Alone, the she-cat stopped leaving the Rusty Mill, and she also stopped encouraging visitors. It all happened so fast, but in the blink of a blind eye, Witch Hazel became cynical and cold. She felt betrayed by the world, betrayed by her own foolish hopes, and resigned herself to a miserable life alone without the beautiful world she had once loved.
