Hemlockheart was having her own internal monologue late into the night. The entirety of the camp was asleep, and she felt entirely safe in solitude. Still, she had crept quietly out of the camp, just to be safe. Half-moonlight bathed the forest and where it managed to find its way through the leaves, it cast strange, twinkling patches upon the ground like stars. This was Hemlockheart’s favorite time to be awake. Not only did she feel safe in herself, but she could look out into the distance, and it seemed in places as if the sky melted to the earth, and she could daydream walking the same paths as her father did up in StarClan. It was a time she felt closer to him. A time where she could— [break][break]
“She’s forgotten what’s important.”[break]
“In fact, she has.”[break]
“Does she not think that we know?”[break]
“We know so much.”[break][break]
Hemlockheart sighed. Her mind was not allowed to wander even a second to enjoy the peace of midnight. [break][break]
“Should we remind her?”[break]
“We should remind her what is important.”[break][break]
There were typically two voices. One was the ringleader of nastiness, while the other seemed to always just agree with the first. They were female and male, the female voice being the cruel lead one, and the male, the right-hand. That was how she saw them, at least. They were somewhat quieter this night than they had been in nights past, which was a bit relaxing. However, they seemed to think there was something quite important that Hemlockheart was forgetting. [break][break]
“What exactly is important?” Hemlockheart asked absently, clearly annoyed.[break]
“You should not be listening.”[break]
“Yes, you are spying.”[break]
“You should be asleep.”[break]
“Well, I’m not,” Hemlockheart responded with a bit of sleep. “I’m not asleep.”[break]
“Obviously.”[break]
“Yes, obviously.”[break][break]
Hemlockheart found that she had walked all the way to the edge of her territory, the lip of the forest that divided her Clan from SkyClan. A small twinge encouraged her across the border out of curiosity, but she withheld. Sitting quietly right along the border, she stared beyond into the lands unknown. She was desperate curious at what her life may have been like had she been born there, but she would never know. Her life was not there. Her life was in RiverClan.[break][break]
“You did not forget what was important.”[break]
“No, you remembered.”[break][break]
Hemlockheart suddenly felt a prickling sensation, a bit of terror. She had remembered her heritage. She had remembered that deep down, at least some part of her belonged to SkyClan; it always would.
