tom | 16 moons | slow |
riverclan | warrior | frustrated |
[break]
appearance
Larchthroat has thicker hair that can occasionally cause trouble when he's swimming, mainly in the winter when it is at its thickest to keep him warm. His tail is shorter in length than most cats but he still manages to use it like a rudder like most Riverclan cats do. His voice is rather raspy and can sometimes be hard to understand. He sounds almost like a 40 year old woman who has been smoking two packs a day for the past 30 years, but a bit more manly. Along with this shortcoming..he has another err...short problem. His legs are about half that of an average cat's. He was born with a deformity that caused his legs to be stunted in growth and not grow to their full potential. Despite how attractive his face may be a lot of cats find it hard to be around him because they make them uncomfortable with his lower stature. Another side affect of these short legs is that he runs slower and has more trouble swimming than others, but with the help of his friend, Dovesong, he manages to get by.
personality
Slow - Larchthroat has a hard time processing information. There are times where he needs to be told directions three or even four times before they solidly stick in his mind. He tries desperately to hold onto information and follow the directions given to him, but something in his brain just lets his thoughts slip away and it leaves him utterly confused and slightly lost. He needs to be told things slowly and with slightly smaller words - similar to how one would teach an apprentice or maybe a kit.
[break]
Frustrated - This short tom absolutely hates that he can't be like other cats. He was late becoming an apprentice because of his inabilities and seems to be in a perpetual state of frustration and anger. He will snap when others try to offer him help (Save for Dovesong) and refuses to accept any sort of sympathy. He wants to be treated like all the other warriors and not looked at with that sad, knowing look that he seems to get no matter where he goes or what he tries to do.
[break]
Suspicious - When others try to treat him normal or in a friendly light Larchthroat tends to get rather suspicious of their intentions. He struggles to trust others and doesn't want to believe that they are simply being nice for the sake of it. He always feels as if they're going to turn on him and betray him or make fun of him in some way. He can't hardly believe in the niceness of others simply for the sake of being kind.
[break]
Quiet - With all his problems it's no wonder that this tom is rather quiet. He isn't one to speak up for himself, or at all really. He has incredibly low self esteem and often times wants nothing more than to slink off into a corner to lick the mental wounds he has inflicted on himself from his internal mental tirades against himself.

history
From the moment that his sickly mother birthed him it was very obvious that Larchthroat was not the height of health. Throughout the pregnancy his mother had been wracked with sickness. She had been a loner before being taken into the folds of Riverclan and had been pretty healthy when she joined, but when she became pregnant to another warrior in the clan her health quickly deteriorated. The medicine cat couldn't think of anything to do besides let the birth run its course and so Larchkit was born. He was a weak and pathetic little mewling creature with barely enough meat on his bones to keep him alive. But with the help of another she cat in the nursery he managed to slowly gain some strength. And with the weight shared between two queens Larchkit's mother seemed to improve.
[break][break]
And that was how he met Dovekit. Two moons after he was born she was brought into the nursery (and the clan) and given to willing queen; the original queen who had helped him returned to his duties - his mother able to take care of more of his raising. At first the two kits were nothing more than surrogate litter mates, but as Dovekit started to move around and open her eyes and gain her personality the two seemed to gravitate towards each other. Dovekit worked hard with the little Larchkit to help him do everything that should have came pretty easily, it was obvious to everyone that he was progressing at a rate much slower than that of the other kits who; though two moons younger, managed to catch up to his progress.
[break][break]
With the help of the little white kit Larchkit graduated from the nursery on time and became Larchpaw. His mentor was kind, but very standoffish - almost as if he was uncomfortable with the little problem that was thrust upon him. So Larchpaw struggled furiously to understand even the most basic of apprentice duties. He was okay at swimming, and passable at fighting, but mainly he worked around the camp and helped to care for the elders and queens. Which he didn't mind. The queens were always kind and it gave him time to spend with Dovekit. Along with that the elders told him stories that caused his long whiskers to quiver with excitement.
[break][break]
The time when he should have been made a warrior came and passed, the other apprentices all were given their warrior names and Larchpaw was stuck at just that..Larchpaw. But he didn't mind so much. Dovepaw was helping him to become a better member of the clan. She explained things in just the right way and was always softly encouraging him and helping him in subtle ways that made his heart shake with excitement. And so it was that he managed to become a warrior at the same time as Dovepaw. He was two moons late, but that was fine by him. He had his best friend by his side and couldn't even begin to be upset. He hadn't thought he would get through his apprenticeship; let alone become a warrior that could help provide and protect his clan.
