HOW LONG CAN I WAIT TO JUSTIFY ANOTHER COLD EMBRACE? Breathe. Remember to breathe. How had this happened? She was going for her normal stroll on her own, all was fine it was a simple breeze making its way through the air. Her paws had been on solid ground padding their way up a tiny hill when the mud slipped right out from under her paws. She slipped down the hill harshly, rolling a few times until mud stuck to her cream fur like glue.
Her heart was drumming in her chest as she tried to dig her claws into the ground in order to save herself. The river was rushing so close below her, yet she couldnt get a grip on anything. Rocks were tearing her claws to shreds as she let out a high pitched yowl, she knew her pride was at stake but it was that or die. Soon enough she slammed into the water below, it splashing all around where she had gone in.
Trying to remind herself to breathe she took large gasps each time she managed to surface, though water was still slowly filling her lungs. Soon enough, and she could feel it, the cream molly was fading out. Her vision was darkening and her heart only slammed in her chest faster. Her body would slam into rocks here and there, cutting up her sides until one slammed right into the side of her head, blackening her vision completely. Ashenearth. A scream.
Abruptly, the tom paused, his ears pricking as the sound split the air, peeling away the layers of birdsong and rustling leaves. The day had been so peaceful, the sun bright, the breeze sluggish and gentle. All had seemed well with the world, as though even a kit could meander through the valley without a care. However, such tranquility melted away with the blood curdling yowl, its tone tinged with fear. Quickly, he tasted the air, his body growing rigid as age old senses drifted back to him. Once he had been a warrior, and still the muscular frame stuck to him. He was not soft, nor untrained. Had his mentor not held him back due to a bitter agenda, he would have been a Warrior too, one as skilled as any other. Often, he felt himself regretting such days wasted on fruitless pursuits, and yet- in times like these- it empowered him. No matter the event, be it rival clan cats advancing from the border or a badger, he knew he would be of use.
Quickly, his strong legs pushed him across the earth, paws flying over ruddy stone and dirt. He followed his nose, the breeze trailing a familiar scent toward him. It was Skyclan, but too faint to register with a face and name. As he advanced, however, more details became known to him. Rosecloud! Immediately, he saw the cream she-cat flash before his eyes. Though he had never grown close to the kitten, he recalled watching his mentor help her mother in the birth. In awe, he had witnessed the two little kits be named, and with a fondness, he had seen them grow. Though she was no longer the kitten she had once been, he couldn't help but feel protective of her. He could not bear to let the young she-cat join her mother in Starclan so soon.
Suddenly, the scent disappeared.
Eyes widening, he stopped abruptly, head moving this way and that as he struggled to recapture the scent. Around him, he saw nothing but shrubberies and the fast moving river, sleek rocks and gnarled roots. Frustration began to mount inside, and his eyes narrowed as the pressure of the situation increased. Where... where...!
A flash of cream. It was sodden, darkened, but it was there. It flowed along with the river, knocking to the side, to and fro, bobbing along lifelessly. His eyes widened in horror as the tragedy became clear. The current was strong, and yet the gods seemed to have done him a surface, for she had been thrust near the river bank. He would still need a swim a small stretch to save her but... it could be done. With a deep breath, he waited a heartbeat.. and then he plunged into the waters.
Cold fingers dug into his pelt, but he cut through the gentler current with strong hind legs. His paddling was not the most eloquent, but his warrior's strength was as much an aid as any. Focused entirely on his task, he swam closer until he could lock the she-cat's scruff in his jaws. Immediately, the taste of soaked fur filled his mouth- and blood. Determined, he wrenched her back toward the bank, his strong hind legs kicking out in an effort to bring them to shore. After a little struggling, his thick fur weighing him down, his paws touched gravel.
His sides heaved as he dragged Rosecloud ashore. Not willing to waste time, however, he quickly set her down. It took no long deduction to realize that she was unconscious. She no longer breathed, her chest still. Medicine training immediately took hold of him, and he placed his paws on her chest, forcing his weight down on her as he pumped back and forth, attempting to force the water from her lungs.

HOW LONG CAN I WAIT TO JUSTIFY ANOTHER COLD EMBRACE? She felt as if she had lost, her body no longer moving, the breath she craved was no longer there. It was almost like they all said, before you die your life with flash before your eyes like a movie, yet what Rosecloud saw was her mother and her father. Seconds later her mind was on her brother, there was no way she could leave him behind! She wasnt ready to die.
Almost as if a guardian angel was sent, little did she know one basically was, Rosecloud's body lurched forward and the cream colored cat began coughing up the water that had filled her lungs. Her fur was matted with mud and blood had started to dry in large patches, however she was breathing again, as labored as it was. Her green eyes, now dull from the life she had almost lost, slowly moved up until they landed on Ashenearths face.
Rosecloud had barely gotten to her paws before slamming back down onto the shore, her ears lied back flat. "Thank you..." She managed out, though her voice was raspy, sounding as if it hurt to so much as say a simple vowel. "Thank you for saving me.." Ashenearth. # ROSECLOUDOn the fifth thrust of his paws, the still corpse lurched to life. Maw gaping open, river water bubbled from within, sloshing over soaked lips. She spasmed as her body heaved in an attempt to free her lungs of what suffocated her. Ashenearth remained close, his fur brushing her own as he watched her struggle. Though relief lifted from his chest, now was not the time to rejoice. All along her body, mud coated various wounds and lacerations- each likely granted by the vicious rocks within the watery depths. Brown and crimson mingled, a small paste forming across her body. Infection. Though it had yet to set in, the makings for it were scraped through her fur. Bacteria, germs, the likes of which that festered in the flesh and brought on fever. Her wounds would need to be cleaned, and yet he had no supplies on hand. He dared not wash the warrior off in the river for fear of the current catching her once more. They would need to travel, but the patched valley was inhospitable at best. A plan, a plan... he needed a plan. Ashenearth calmly watched the she-cat as her eyes focused upon his own. Dull pain etched her face, exhaustion clear in every line. However, rather than listen to her broken body, she tried to struggle to her feet. He moved to support her, but just as quickly did she fall onto the shore once more- weak and defeated. "Thank you," she muttered through voice husky with fatigue and death. Ashenearth merely nodded, collected as per usual. He did not have the time, nor the energy, to waste on courtesy. While Rosecloud no longer shared tongues with Starclan, her life still flickered before him as fragile as a candle flame. "Easy now, rest for a while," he mewed gently, settling beside her. Without reliable water near by, he began to lick her brow, easing away soot and dirt where it disturbed the cream fur. The Medicine cat paused then. "I will clean you as best I can, simply relax. We'll move to some place warmer soon. Until then, tell me why this happened." Not unkind, his voice gentle yet firm, Ashenearth said his piece. Once satisfied, her returned to cleaning her fur, tongue rasping gingerly over the torn skin and sensitive wounds. Thankfully for the cold, her body was still numb- but such would fade soon enough. Normally he would have willed her to sleep through the process, but he needed her coherent, he needed her strong. Dragging her to the nearest shelter would only open her wounds once more or -starclan forbid- tear them further.

HOW LONG CAN I WAIT TO JUSTIFY ANOTHER COLD EMBRACE? Exhaustion quickly set in as the little cat lied down beside her medicine cat, his grooming a rhythm that gave her more comfort than she thought possible in a situation like this. Rosecloud knew she couldnt fall asleep as she had just been unconscious, yet she was finding it hard to remain awake.
Her ears flicked and she lifted her head a bit more when she heard Ashenearth speak, eyes flicking back up to him. She wanted so badly to be able to get up and assist him in helping her, this was all her fault anyways.
"I.. I was just g-going for a walk is all. Up on the h-hill, the ground slid out from under me.." She started, her voice shaking as the cold seemed to finally set in for her again. Her body started to shiver as she pressed herself closer to Asheneart, shutting her eyes a moment to think.
"I tried to hold on b-but it was all mud and I fell right in." Rosecloud lifted her right front paw for a second, unsheathing her claws. What she found, much to her dismay were dull, blood clotted stumps. She really had to have done them in on the stones she tried to grip. Ashenearth. # ROSECLOUDHmmm... He paused in his grooming to look out over the land. The land was relatively hilly, the dirt loose from lack of moisture and a dismal absence of plants. One had to be very careful here, and yet there was no reason for warriors to risk losing their lives to the rushing water at their sides. When she was stronger, Rosecloud would have to lead him to the hill- but until then, he would simply tell Faithstar to make an announcement to avoid the valley unless traveling in pairs. He felt the stirrings of discontent, and Skyclan could not afford to be losing lone wanderers to watery graves. It was a miracle that he had gone to the river- an act of Starclan truly. It had not been your time, and the winds had given me your call. What cat had aided him, however? Part of his heart ached as he wondered if, perhaps, it had been Hailfall. But such was foolishness. His father had never once visited him at the sacred places of the clans. Absent had been the long furred tom, and though it hurt to thought about, a part of Ashenearth could not have been more thankful. To face his sire's face would be to face his greatest fear. A shiver wracked her body, and Ashenearth pressed closer, once more resuming his grooming. He moved from her head to her sides. Here, the wounds were more prevalent, and he worked more methodically. Licking fur back the wrong way to warm her more swiftly, he hoped to complete the task before she lost all of her strength. ... Olive eyes looked over her right paw, the sight making him grimace. Walking would be a pain for her- perhaps forever. After he had finished, he gave her brow one more comforting lick. "It's alright. Come on, up now." He nudged her. "We're going to get to that little clump of bushes there. Lean on me, I'll help you- and I wont' let you fall." Now that she was more or less clean, he could get some herbs to aid her. But he could not abide leaving the warrior so long as she was vulnerable and out in the open.

HOW LONG CAN I WAIT TO JUSTIFY ANOTHER COLD EMBRACE? Listening to his words she nodded, her body was sore, that much she could easily tell. While her head was still a bit cloudy she knew that Ashenearth was right and she had to get up and go over where he wanted her. She swiveled her head over to look at where he wanted her and Rosecloud nodded slowly.
Taking a deep breath she slowly lifted herself, her legs felt as though they were still in water and she was definitely shaking, though with the toms help she knew she could manage it for a short distance. Rosecloud wasn't quite sure what parts of her body were wounded and hurt just yet though it felt as though her whole pelt was stinging in pain.
Shaking away the thought she started for the bushes, clenching her jaws. WORDS: I give up || TAGGED: @cobweb Sad cutie. template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

Ashenearth. # ROSECLOUDQuietly he slid in beside the she-cat, his shoulder on hers as they padded awkwardly toward the bush. To their disadvantage, the ground sloped slightly upward, and so the going got tougher. Nonetheless, Rosecloud proved to be a determined soul. With pain likely a constant throb in her body, she made step after shaky step. Her blood seeped into his side, painting the white and gray a ugly crimson. Rather than murmur any complaint, he remained stoic, his breathing rhythmic. Left, right. His thoughts repeated the pattern, and whenever she strayed for a moment, whenever her weight fell more heavily onto him, he dared not waver. While a medicine cat, his was still the body of a warrior. Corded muscle ran along his sides, though none could ever be seen due to the length of his fur. Though perhaps it was better that way. He could hold down wriggling kits and administer more invasive procedures without alarming and intimidating his patients. "Here we are," he mewed as the bush appeared before them. Its small leaves rustled dryly in the wind, and the hot sun had baked several of them to crisps. Still, it provided some respite from the elements. With a small nuzzle to the she-cat's cheek, he waited for her to curl upon the earth. "I'll fetch some herbs from the area. Will you be fine here?" Again, Ashenearth's voice remained calm and collected. The last thing he needed was for her to be hysteric.

HOW LONG CAN I WAIT TO JUSTIFY ANOTHER COLD EMBRACE? The long cream fur seemed beaten and abused, the little cat under it looking as pathetic as ever. Rosecloud, the cat with the confidence of a thousand leaders when it came to her appearance, looked udderly ashamed and helpless. Her amber eyes gazing around as she refused to make eye contact with the medicine cat who saved her.
"I'll be f-fine." She said softly, body shaking a bit as she awaited for heat to fully return. Her stutter made her cough awkwardly, hoping he hadnt caught it. She wouldnt lie if anyone asked her but she did find the tom quite handsome, though she knew he'd never take to her thus not giving it a second thought. Though as he catered to her now she could feel her mentality wavering and it stung deep down. She had played many cats in her time but she never wanted to play him, and likely never would honestly.
