herbs and their uses
ALDER
Reduces swelling and prevents infection when chewed and applied to a wound. May also be chewed by a cat with a toothache to reduce pain, swelling, and aid in preventing complications.
ALFALFA
Used to prevent tooth decay.
ALOE VERA
Use the gel inside of leaves to cure skin problems or burns.
ASH (TREE)
New shoots are to be eaten, and chewed and applied to the bit of an Adder or Viper to stave off the effects of its poisoned bite.
Keys (seeds) of the Ash tree may also be consumed to fight the pain caused by a stitch in the side.
BASIL
Used to treat paw problems.
BEECH LEAVES
Used by Thunderclan Medicine cats for carrying herbs.
BINDWEED
Fastens sticks to broken legs to keep them in place.
BLACKBERRY LEAVES
Chewed and eaten by nursing queens to produce better milk, can also be used to being down fevers.
BLESSED THISTLE
Increases circulation of blood.
BORAGE
Leaves and Roots should be consumed to stave off fevers. Seeds and leaves should be consumed by the nursing Queen to increase available milk.
Borage should never be used dried, only green.
BRAMBLE TWIGS
Chew this to a fine syrup. It helps to sleep.
BROOM
Used in poultices for broken legs and wounds.
BURDOCK
Leaves may be chewed and applied to wounds that are clear of infection to speed healing.
Roots may be chewed and applied to a wound to draw infection from it.
BURNET
A traveling herb.
CATNIP
Leaves and Flowers can be used to relive congestion and coughs.
CATCHWEED
Burrs can be used to hold treatments.
CELADINE
Used to strengthen weak eyes.
CHAPARRAL
helps clean faces. Good for when cats get feline achne
(Feline achne occurs when a cats' face is dirty for long periods of time. Bumps appear, and are red and sore. Bumps will appear all over muzzle and cheeks, sometimes spreading across nose.)
CHERVIL
The juice of the leaves can be used for infected wounds, and chewing the roots helps with bellyache.
CHAMOMILE
Leaves and Flowers may be consumed to sooth a cat and add to their physical strength.
CHICKWEED
Substitute for Catmint
CLOVER
Relieves anger.
COB NUTS
Made into ointment, suggested for traveling.
COBWEBS
Gathered and pressed into wounds to stop bleeding. Generally only used with wounds that risk bleeding heavily as they can cause increased risk of infection.
COLTSFOOT
The leaves can be chewed into a pulp, which is eaten to help shortness of breath.
COMFREY
Used when healing broken bones.
DASIY LEAVES
Chewed to a paste for aching joints. Can also be used for traveling.
DANDELION
The white liquid is applied to bee stings, leaves can be chewed to act as a painkiller.
DEATHBERRY (DEADLY NIGHT SHADE)
Berries, or any other part of the plant, when consumed will kill the cat who swallows if they are not given immediate help, and even then they may not always be saved. Roots & leaves may be chewed together and applied to sore places, but must NEVER be applied to open wounds.
This is a poison in addition to a healing plant.
DOCK
A plant similar to sorrel. The leaf can be chewed up and applied to soothe scratches.
DRIED OAK LEAVES
Collected in the autumn and stored in a dry place. Stops infections.
ELDER LEAVES
Used to treat sprains.
ECHINACIA
Used to ease infection.
FENNEL
Used to ease pain in hips.
FERNS
Used to clean out wounds.
FEVER-FEW
Leaves can be used to reduce fever, in addition to being consumed to aid against colds and stomach ailments.
GINGER
Used to help asthma and coughs.
GOLDENROD
A poultice of this is terrific for healing wounds.
GOOSEGRASS
Used to stop bleeding from wounds.
GRASS
Helps bellyaches
GUMWEED
Helps seal wounds from infection and helps to heal the wound quicker.
HAWTHORN BERRIES
Used for indigestion.
HEATHER NECTAR
Makes swallowing easier and sweetens herbal mixtures.
HEDGEHOG BUDS
Used to treat/cure runny noses.
HOLLY BERRIES
Poison.
HONEY
Used to sooth the throat. Particularly good for smoke inhalation.
HORSETAIL
Sap can be combined with Cobweb to stop bleeding.
IRIS
Used to stimulate breathing during the birthing process; can also be used for kit's sore throats. Everything but the petals is poisonous.
IVY LEAVES
Used by Shadowclan medicine cats to store herbs.
JUNIPER
Berries ease the stomach and can serve as a counter poison. Leaves are used to ease coughs and other respiratory problems.
LAMB'S EAR
Used to strengthen body for traveling.
LAVENDER
Leaves & flowers are particularly good when eaten for easing pains in head and throat, can also help cure fevers or chills.
Inhaling the sent of fresh flowers can also calm the nerves.
LOTUS
Used as an energizer to help keep you awake.
MALLOW
Used to soothe bellyahces.
MARIGOLD
Leaves and Flowers should be consumed to relieve chills.
Leaves and Petals can be chewed and placed on wounds to prevent infection.
MINER'S LETTUCE
Sore pads, prevents infection, traveling herb. Leaves should be chewed to a fine pulp and juice spread on pads.
MILKWEED
Use to treat sores or burns. Do not use around ears or eyes. Poisonous when eaten.
MINT
Hides the scent of death.
MOUSEBILE
Bile from the liver of the common mouse may be harvested and used to kill stubborn fleas and ticks.
MUD
Smeared over bee and hornet stings to soothe the sting. Should be applied wet and left to dry and fall off on its own. The stings should fall off with it, leaving a small mark which goes away quickly by itself.
NARCISSUS
Soothes a cat when she is having contractions.
PARSLEY
Used to stop flow of a queens milk.
PAWPAW
Used to treat kittencough.
POPPY (WILD)
Seeds can be consumed to remove pain and aid is sleep.
Flower heads should be consumed together to relive continuous coughs.
Petals and Leaves should be chewed to aid in sleep and improve resting.
RAGWEED
Similar to Lambs Ear
RAGWORT
Crushed, chewed, and mixed with Juniper Berries, treats aching joints and keeps a cats strength up.
RASPBERRY LEAVES
Used to ease pain and stop bleeding, commonly used during kitting.
ROBINWEED
Used to clean out the system when poisons have been digested.
ROSEMARY
Hides scent of death.
ROSE WATER
Revives an unconcious patient--; Soak moss in, then lay on forehead.
RUSH
Used to bind broken bones.
SAGE ROOTS
Use for cracked pads, use with poppy seeds.
SHOCK ROOTS
uses to stimulate the nerves system. Use after a cat has been knocked out, poisoned, or head trauma.
SKULLCAP SEEDS
Used to give a cat extra strength.
STINGING NETTLE
The spiny green seeds can be administered to a cat who's swallowed poison, while the leaves can be applied to a wound to bring down swelling.
SNAKEROOT
Used to counter poison.
SORREL
Traveling herb.
STICK
Used for kitting, queens bite the stick to distract from pain.
TANSY
Leaves, flowers, and Stems should be eaten together to remove worms.
Leaves may be chewed to relive joint aches.
Flowers should be consumed to remove coughs.
Pregnant Queens should NEVER be given Tansy, for it causes miscarriages.
THYME
Should be consumed to calm the anxious cat, or to aid in bringing restful sleep.

A good remedy for all wounds and for poison ingestion.
WATER MINT
Used to help cure bellyaches.
WILD GARLIC
Rolling in a patch of wild garlic can help prevent infection, especially for dangerous wounds like rat bites.
WILLOW TREE
Water from beneath the bark of the flowering willow may be dripped into the eyes to help clear blurriness of vision. It may also be applied to dry patches of skin to sooth itches.
Small amounts of Willow Bark may be consumed to ease pain, act against inflammation, and to ease diarrhea or fevers.
WINDFLOWER
Used to treat stomach cramps, such as when a she-cat becomes pregnant.
WITCH HAZEL
Used to give you an extra boost, this will wake you up (energizer).
WINTERGREEN
Treats wounds and some poisons.
YARROW
Entire plant should be consumed to induce vomiting.
Entire plant should be chewed and applied to wounds to relive pain and prevent infection.
YEW
To make a cat vomit up poisons.
VERA
Helps with Burns Rashes or scratches (when given you must chew, swallow liquid, then spit out the pulp).
